Caractéristiques

Aérienne avec un superbe panorama sur le Lac Léman, les Alpes Valaisannes et le Mt-Blanc. Un peu difficile pour des enfants et les débutants.

Certaines marches sont un peu hautes /distantes pour les personnes de taille moyenne.

Astuces ViaFerrata

Prends ton vélo de montagne (VTT) avec toi ou loue le sur place, car la descente jusqu'à Leysin est sympa.

Le pique-nique est indispensable. Tu profites de l'excellent panorama, tout en mangeant, au sommet de la ferrata.

Parking. Nous avons déjà reçu des messages de l'Office du Tourisme et de certains habitants de Leysin qui déplorent notre coup de gueule sur le fait qu'il n'y a pas de place de parc gratuite pour les hôtes de la via ferrata. En gros, tu paies ta place de parc (qui appartient aux remontées mécaniques) et tu repaies pour monter en remontées mécaniques.

Bon, nous faisons un effort! Nous saluons cette initiative géniale d'accueillir les touristes de la station avec une bûche s'ils ne paient pas leur stationnement et nous trouvons vraiment trop cool et sympa d'avoir installé un parking gratuit à 4 km des remontées mécaniques. Il aurait été totalement idiot d'offrir un billet combiné remontées mécaniques + parking pour les via ferratistes comme nous l'avons suggéré.

Par la route

De Genève, prendre l'autoroute en direction de Lausanne puis Sion-Martigny. Depuis Chamonix et Aoste direction Martigny-Suisse. A Martigny prendre l'autoroute direction Lausanne-Genève. Sortie Aigle (25 km).

Dans Aigle prendre la N 11, direction Château d'Oex, les Diablerets, Leysin.

Par le Train

Prends le train jusqu'à Aigle et ensuite jusqu'à Leysin.
Contacte les CFF , pour les horaires et le tarif des trains et bus.

Accès

Monte dans les cabines de la Berneuse.

Il n'y a peu d'indications et peu fléchage, alors fais confiance. Quand tu arrives au sommet des installations sur ta gauche tu as le restaurant tournant le Kuklos. Regarde en direction du restaurant. A sa droite dans le fond se dresse une montagne avec une falaise. C'est là que tu trouves la ferrata de la Tour D'Aï.

Descends le chemin très raide qui mène à de petites maisons et un charmant lac. Une fois arrivé au fond, remonte la pente à gauche en suivant les installations des remontées mécanique. Tu trouves un petit sentier qui te mènes au départ. (voir photo du topo au sommet de page).

Via Ferrata

D'entrée de jeu, il y a des pas difficiles. Si tu passes... ça devrait être okay pour le reste. Sinon, rebrousse ton chemin gringo!

Une petite traversée en haut et en bas... t'amènent au pied de la cheminée. Il va falloir y passer... voilà une excellente occasion de jouer le Père-Noël. On espère qu'après ça, tu va te rendre compte de l'énorme travail du Père-Noël et que cet hiver, tu vas lui laisser des biscuits sur la cheminée...

A la sortie un petit dévers, mais on insiste petit, tu as la possibilité de voir le vide autours de toi. Tu arrives gentiment au sommet de cette via. Encore un dernier petit pas très photogénique. Le Sommet de la Via est presque une classique.

Une fois arrivé sur le plateau, tu bénéficies d'un panorama inoubliable et splendide.

Retour

La descente est un peu sportive environ 40 minutes. Sois prudent, il y a déjà eu des morts.

Arrivé au lac, tu peux reprendre tes vélos (si tu es venu à VTT)... et hop tu descends soit à Leysin, soit à Aigle.

Si tu es venu à pieds, le concept est le même, mais la descente jusqu'à Leysin un peu plus longue.

Vertiginous with a superb panorama on Lake Geneva, the Valais Alps, and Mt-Blanc. A bit difficult for children and beginners.

Some steps are a bit high/too far for people of average height.

ViaFerrata Tips and Tricks

Take your mountain bike (MTB) with you or rent one there, for the way down to Leysin is very nice.

A picnic is a must. At the summit of the via ferrata you can enjoy the incredible panorama while you eat.

Parking. We already received some messages from the Tourism Office and some inhabitants of Leysin lamenting our rant about the fact that there are no free parking spaces for the users of the via ferrata.
Consequently, we are making an effort to commend this great initiative to welcome tourists to the station with a fine if they do not pay for their parking and we really think its super cool and nice that they put a free parking lot 4km away from there. It would have been totally stupid for them to offer a combined lift and parking ticket for the users of the via ferrata as we suggested.

By Car

From Geneva, take the highway towards Lausanne and then Sion-Martigny. From Chamonix and Aosta take the highway towards Martigny-Suisse. In Martigny take the highway towards Lausanne-Geneva. Exit at Aigle (25km).

In Aigle take the N 11, towards Château d'Oex, les Diablerets, Leysin.

By Train

Prends le train jusqu'à Aigle et ensuite jusqu'à Leysin.
Take the train to Aigle and then to Leysin.
Contact the SBB, for train and bus schedules and fares.

Access

Take the Berneuse lift.

There are few indications and markings, so you must have faith. When you arrive at the summit of the lifts you will see the Kuklos rotating restaurant. Look towards the restaurant. A mountain with a cliff rises in the background to its right. This is where you will find the Tour D'Aï ferrata.

Go down the very steep trail that leads to some small houses and a charming lake. Once you are at the bottom, climb up the hill on the left following the cables and poles of the lift. You will find a little trail that will lead you to the start. (see the picture from the guide at the top of the page).

Via Ferrata

There are some difficult moves from the very beginning. If you get pass them... you should be fine for the rest. Otherwise, turn back now gringo!

A little traverse up and down... brings you to the foot of the chimney. You will have to get past it... it's a nice opportunity to play Santa Claus. We hope that after this you will realize how hard Santa really works and that this coming winter you will leave him some cookies by the chimney...

It's a bit overhanging at the end of the chimney, but only a bit, and you get to see the void all around you. You arrive tranquilly to the summit of this via. Just one more little section, great for photos. The summit of the via is almost a classic.

Once you arrive on the plateau, you can make the most of an unforgettable and splendid panorama.

Way Back

The way down is a bit athletic, around 40 minutes. Be careful, there have already been deaths.

Once you arrive at the lake, you can get your bikes (if you came with your MTBs)... and off you go, down either to Leysin or Aigle.

If you came by foot, the concept is the same, but the way down to Leysin is a bit longer.

Un peu difficile à trouver.

Si elle est trop difficile pour toi, rennonce. La Via ferrata de la Tour d'Ai à Leysin qui est un peu plus accessible.

Difficulté: La première difficulté est de trouver une place de parc gratuite. Il y en a une à la patinoire, mais c'est à 3 jours de marche.

Accès

Depuis le départ de la Télécabine, suis la route qui monte (celle qui est à droite).

Attention si tu parques ta voiture dans la rue qui monte, veille à tourner ta voiture dans le sens de la descente car il s'agit d'un sens unique. Cela t'évitera de te prendre une bûche.

Tu passes vers un abris à poubelles sur ta droite avec un panneau REKA. Prends cette petite route qui monte.

Tu rejoins un mini parking. De là, à gauche en direction d'une maison grise avec des volets verts qui à le doux nom de "A Tout Vent".

Vers cette maison, continue via un chemin non goudronné (tout droit). Tu vas arriver dans une forêt et un agréable chemin monte sur ta droite. La via ferrata n'est plus très loin Grand Stroumf.

Via Ferrata: en 3 parties

Partie 1
Bien.... tout commence par la partie la plus rock&roll! Elle débute par un dévers déversant. C'est fort à bras et à ne pas mettre entre toutes les mains. Tu y découvrires, en chemin, un pont de singe et une poutre assez difficile d'accès.

Cette partie est réservée aux meilleurs, car c'est franchement très physique.

Partie 2

C'est un petit peu plus calme, au début avec un montée un peu herbeuse et terreuse. Mais comme tu as pris des chaussures de montagne, tu n'as pas trop de problèmes.

Et hop, voici à nouveau un surplomb qui te tire sur les bras... Ca commence à devenir difficile. Une passerelle sympa dans les arbres mène à la dernière partie.

Partie 3
Avec la fatigue des deux premiers tronçons, c'est de plus en plus difficile. Nous allons faire bref! Dès que tu vois la première échelle, tu y seras. A la deuxième échelle, tes petits pieds toucheront enfin le sol. C'est alors qu'un petit ouf de soulagement se fera entendre!

ViaFerrata Tips and Tricks

A bit hard to find.

If it is too hard for you, give up. Go instead to the Tour d'Ai Via Ferrata in Leysin which is a bit easier.

Difficulty: The first challenge is to find a free parking spot. There is one at the ice-skating rink, but it's a three day walk from here.

By Car

Access

At the bottom of the lifts, follow the road that goes up (the one on the right).

Be careful if you park your car in the street going up, make sure your car is facing downhill as it is a one way street. This way you won't get a parking ticket.

On your right, you pass by a shelter for trash cans that has a REKA sign. Take the little road going up.

You come to a mini parking lot. From here, go left towards a gray house with green shutters which goes by the gentle name of "A Tout Vent" ("By Any Wind").

Near this house, keep going onto an unpaved trail (straight ahead). You will get to a forest and a pleasant trail climbs up on your right. The via ferrata is not much further, Papa Smurf!

Via Ferrata: in 3 parts

Part 1
Well... it all begins with the most rock&roll section! It starts with a tiltled overhang. It's tough on the arms and is not for all hands. On your way you will discover a rope bridge and a beam that is not so easy to get on.

This part is only for the very best, as it is frankly very strenuous.

Part 2

This part is a bit more tranquil, it starts with a grassy and earthen uphill. But since you'll be wearing your sturdy hiking shoes, you won't have any problems.

And bingo, you come across a new overhang that works your arms... It starts to get hard. A nice aerial footbridge in the trees leads you to the last part.

Part 3

With the fatigue you have already accumulated from the first two sections, it gets harder and harder. We'll be brief! Once you see the first ladder, you are there. When you get to the second ladder, your little feet will finally touch the ground. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief!

A guaranteed good time!

Way Back

Like on the way there, but the opposite.
